OPPS I dropped it

Don't know whether to rebuild the superstructure or just doctor it up. Believe it was built in the early 60s and I've had it for teen years now.  The hull is o.k. could pass for scalish model with a little etchings added Unfortunately it has a single rudder and prop but runs all day on a 12volt 7amp battery. Pulls 1amp p/h

It doesn't look too bad, I'd fix it up and with some new paint and a little filler it would be hardly noticible. Along with some photo etch it could look a stunning model.

Agreed it would hardly notice once repaired and would be all the better for some extra detailing, ok it wouldn't pass muster as a exhibition model with the single rudder and prop, but as a sailing model she would look grand on the water. :-))

once Margaret threw me model of the Vosper MTB down the stairs during an argument - but revenge was sweet - the rubber plant never ever recovered :-)

the MTB did :-)

You will easily repair that my mate.  What you have to get over is that sickly feeling that you dropped it in the first place.

Looking at these pictures I think its a rebuild, very old 50/60 material used. The round parts on the turret top are carpet tacks and the hull had flat head panel pins with thread between them for railings. I'll start with sussing out 1/96 etchings for KG5

Bit of modelling history there.
Using available bits and bob's
for guardrails etc.
Would be good on the water
showing how models were built
nearly 60 years ago.

I would just repair her, repaint if necessary and sail as a part of modelling history, far more interesting than "modernising" her.

Its now leaning more to a built time of 50s as it was in two halves for transporting I drilled more holes in the joining frames and bolted it together and  filled in the gap around the hull. First outing it started to take on water. When I looked into  the bow it had a layer of paper over it and there was strips of wood with what looked like early type of filler between them. Which was sodden and mushy. I tackled that by stripping back and filling with P38 smoothing flat and a coat ( can't remember) then sprayed it up and has been o.k. since.The ships boats liferafts and pom poms were added by me to dress her up a little. Also have P38 the surface of the superstructure years ago as it was showing it's age. Somewhere a long the line it has been revampt as there is plasticcard used also a picture of a wood supplier.

I'll just tidy up the funnels/deck and spray up and get it on the water for summer.

  Solarbo - an American company of that name still exists, but Solarbo Ltd of Lancing was dissolved in 2013.

I just glue it together with screws and a square piece of scrap wood bit rough work under there with previous owner(s) Gave it a coat of cellulose dope repaired and painted up here and there. Just kept the 1950s look, warts and all. Checked motor/radio/ servos and ESA all o.k.

On with the Scotia

I must be improving. Spotted the first photo and tried to recognise the boat. Thought it might be a KGV class. Next few photos confirmed it. My recall isn't usually so instantaneous, it's probably because I have been considering plans for this class recently.
I'd try to restore it using original materials and methods, but with the skills you have today. Then it will still be an 'artifact' with a bit of restoration.
Thanks for showing it.
