However, I was meaning more from the point of view of rudder efficiency...  ;)

Surely, the thrust of the propeller is, in effect, a spiral tube or corkscrew coming off the blades, therefore offsetting the rudder in this corkscrew (dependant on rotation when going ahead) will increase its efficiency especially as you have one screw rotating one way and the other the other.

Twin shafts will give the hull more stability when on the plane as the thrust will be balanced each side of the keel.
