Coaster with Double keels?
« on: December 21, 2015, 03:48:27 pm »

Are there any coasters in reality that have keels like this or is it something the model builder has done to protect the rudder and prop?

Do you think this model looks ok like this or weird?

Thanks but I know what a bilge keel is for, what I'm curious about is the use of them in this models case as also its stand. They seem huge, is there a Dutch coaster design out there that really has features like this, I dunno- in case it needed to be grounded when the tide goes out or something?

I would strongly suspect that they are a figment of the builders imagination.

The description does say they are to protect
the prop and rudder so I would agree with LB.

Is this clever modeling or if you owned the model would you remove them?

Normally a lot smaller than on the model however there is a new fishing boat design from Holland that uses bilge keels as part of the engine cooling system ( instead of running the cooling pipes along the hull causing drag they are built into the keels )
