MODEL HOLIDAY WEEKS
« on: January 06, 2016, 10:56:52 pm »

Sad news gentlemen and ladies, it has proved impossible to organise the model week we hoped for this spring.
This brings to an end a series of events which started in 1973 with the Model Boats weeks at Pontins in Brean Sands.
The event had a number of homes over the years and I have been privileged to be a member of the team for the last 26 years.
Ian and I will continue to try to find a new venue, but it is clear that we have no place with the major holiday companies. We will try to find an owner managed site in England, If any still exist; we need access to an indoor pool for boats in the evening, a building to use during the day and a minimum of 40 units to rent.  If you own one, or know of one, then please get in touch.
To end, my personal thanks go to John Cundell for thinking up the idea and for letting me in to the team. To all the team who have worked so successfully with me over the years. Finally to all the modellers who have supported the event over the years, gentlemen and ladies it has been a delight to have known you all, in many ways you have all been like family to me. I wish you all good modelling.

I saw the last two mentioned in Model Boats and thought what a good idea they are. I am sorry this year's one has fallen through but hope you can find a new home.

It is a shame that in the early days you could not have bought a small holiday center to run as a business but leaving a week or two a year for the Model Holiday weeks. I appreciate that these days, it is not an easy occupation running businesses like these and you have to arrrange lots of activities or risk losing out to the bigger companies and the adventure holiday businesses. While I would be in seventh heaven seeing a gorgeous ironclad or Pre dreadnought sailing on the pool, it may not appeal to every day holiday makers!

JIm,

This is indeed sad news. I know how much work you put in. Sadly it's the the state of commerce today, no room for sentiment apparently, just the big buck.

Tried emailing but your email box is full.
