Has anyone strengthened the hull?
I was wondering about bonding some timber under the lip of the hull top opening. Also the bottom of the hull is a large area. My other boat can sound a bit like a drum at speed as the water smacks the hull.
Good idea or waste of time?

Well.....might be worth it under the deck alongside the opening because I have picked up hulls like that and cracked them as a result. Otherwise, no need.

My inclination is to sometimes grab it on the edge of the opening and its going to get heavier as bits are added. The mishap you describe is what occurred to me.
I think it would be a good move for me. Just so long as it doesn't cause any build problems down the line.

When I built my Severn I put a ply base in to mount components on a full length opening vertical wall either side out of ply. This made it more rigid but also provide opportunity to mount electrical items and batteries etc allowing excellent access to motors etc

Robin is spot on with that suggestion. Depending on what you, do there could be a lot of wiring about and Robins method is very tidy.
The additional weight on the model is not an issue in terms of waterline and with emax of turnigy 40-45's on four cells you are never going to notice anyway!!
