Model slipway Aziz rear deck finish
« on: February 28, 2016, 03:19:46 pm »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and am finding it very useful so far although I need some help on a project I've almost completed.
I've just built a Model Slipway AHT Aziz and the very last thing i need to do is stain the rear wooden deck to prevent it from swelling if it gets wet and to give it a slightly darker finish. Does anybody know of a suitable wood stain I could use or will a generic stain from a DIY shop be sufficient?

Thanks

Hi Korp1010
Wood stain such as Colron will do ,colour of your choice , but that alone will not be any good it will need a protective coat ,I used Matt varnish, gave it 3 coats rubbed down between coats then a final rub with a green scotch bright pad and then a coat of wax polish.  I have not and will not be weathering my Fairmount build but if you are there will be a lot of work wear where the tow hauser works ,so if you stain the work deck you might like to take that into consideration when applying the stain.
No dought  there will be other ideas.
