Help! Are these the wrong size?
« on: March 01, 2016, 07:03:11 pm »

Hi Guys,

A while ago I bought a Tyne Models Flying Spindrift kit which I've been dying to complete for ages. The only thing It lacked were the props.
I got in touch with Tyne Models last year who told me they had PropShop make the props for for them and that they would be happy to help source some replacements if I told them the story.

So I emailed PropShop asking for their advice and they were only too happy to help, giving me the exact spec and model number of prop and telling me they did some custom skimming on the Props to allow for the particular design of Kort Nozzle on the kit.

Last week I finally got round to ordering them and double checked the model number and told them what the props were for once more and it all matched up.

The props finally arrived and they really are a work of art, well worth the nearly £90 they cost, but I'm rather concerned they are too small. Looking at them they just don't seem to fill the Kort's, I can get a "standard" size pencil down the side of the gap between the end of the blade and the inside of the nozzle.

The props are 60mm and, looking at this, do you think it should be nearer to 70mm that's correct?
I'm rather concerned that given they are customised slightly I might struggle to get them changed.

Any help to confirm my suspicions before I get in touch with PropShop.

Yes. There should be no more than around 1mm between the edge of a blade and the inside of the nozzle. I'm sure they'll swap them for you.

Yes measure the I D of the kort so that you can tell Simon the dia prop that you require.

Thanks Guys - I just wanted to check I wasn't being silly so thanks for that.

I've sent an email to Simon (Via Dawn) and hope they will swap them out.
Many thanks,

Alex

I would have included one of those photo's and pointed out to them they recommended the props to fit the size of korts in the kit. That out the onus on them to correct the mistake rather than being able to mitigate things by suggesting you supplied the wrong information.

Having said that prop shop being the reputable dealer they are will most likely swap them for you with no argument, the one problem may lie in the fact you say they custom machined them before sending them to you.

That was my worry Brian.

I emailed them last night and included the photos and also a copy of the email from them saying it was those props that I needed to order for the kit. Hopefully they will be able to help me out. Normally I'd just keep them and use them in something else later but given the cost of them I can't really afford to purchase new ones and that would mean I'd have to stall the build until I'd saved up for some new ones.

I know £90 isn't much these days but when it's on a couple of props for a model boat It's a cost that needs to be considered carefully.

Hi I have a couple of commercial plastic Kort and prop combinations and they have a very close fitting prop inside,  they do look nice though

I have some prop shop props and they are works of art.
