IDENTITY QUERY FOR OLD MODEL BOAT
« on: March 02, 2016, 04:50:42 pm »

Hi all .  I have just bought an old toy launch, the name on the box is SAIKI inside 4 swords.
My query is that altho' I can find reference to a company with this name making Tinplate toys in US occupied Japan, indeed an American site had what appeared to be a "Victory Industries Miss England pressed alloy boat" in the same box as mine!
Also, my boat has a wooden hull with a hinged cabin roof.
So has anyone any info on this company.  Also my plan is to re-motor it and convert to RC, but before I start it would be nice to know I am not vandalising a rare vintage toy.
Any information will be welcome.
Here are the pictures.
Cheers  Jim W

That's a cool looking model.
A very steep angle on the propshaft with the prop wash missing the rudder entirely.

I had one like that back in the late 50s, it ran on two D cells. It had a rudder arm that you could set. Eventually tried increaseing the speed by increaseing battery voltage, fried the engine. Ended up putting a fox 0.49 glow engine in it, which made it a fast runner. Never did try RCing it, was too small for the gear available. Eventually gave it away and kid that got it lost it. Wish I had kept it now especially the engine.
Regards,
Gerald.
