I have seen a transparent additive that is available. I will look it up and pass on details.

While not fully transparent (so probably not what you are lookig for with regard to surrepticious additon to your troubled pond) this seems pretty near the mark. http://hydra-aqua.com/pond-natural-shade-dye.html At least it ain't red:O(

Show the Council what can be done.
Give them a copy of the Runcorn lake refurbishment just posted.
Make them ashamed of their stance.

Indeed.  It's exactly the same kind of facility as the Council playing fields, kids' play areas and so forth.  Imagine the fuss there'd be if the kids' swings, the cricket pitch, the football pitches or the tennis courts were rendered unusable because of the Council's mismanagement.

I have seen this happen in public recreation areas in N Wales, I think the same probably happens in English.
Facilities, including playground equipment is neglected and falls into disrepair. People complain it is dangerous, and so the council then remove it. The same happened to many public toilets. In Llandudno Junction they sold off a Fields In Trust recreational area, to local developers.

Re can't use the pond . The pond at the Ffrith Prestatyn no longer exists as a boating pool. There is a landscaped pool but no use for boating There is a lake called Lake Helgyn off the A5151 Newmarket Road not far from Cwm. I don't know anything about it and can't go and look at present .THe small photo that you can'tread the name of looks like the old Llandulas pool which no longer exists.I think it's a parking area now.
BTW the Marine Lake at West Kirby  is useful as long as the full size guys are not out

Just had a brainwave.Someone mentioned a ton of carp they wanted rid of. Why not put some in the pool Especially Grass Carp.  up  But any fish that grub in the mus like Carp  and Tench will  uproot weed and muddy the water. No need for dyes  THe mud should do it.Who stocked the water?.Who knows %%

Why do the lakes at the big golf course's always look good because they use lake shadow that's how we found out about it we were using chemical's with the permission of the Environment Agency until the EU band it they told us about it and also told us we did not need any permission as it was a natural product and we could use it at any time of the year when needed as it does not harm the environment
We had fish in the lake and tadpoles every year plus Kingfishers would often be seen diving in for small fish Yours Scout

is it worth rating the pond on its habitat suitability - http://www.narrs.org.uk/documents/HSI%20guidance.pdf
then there is the fact that by not clearing the weed, the council could be putting the newt at risk, by not maintaining the habitat  to keep it suitable for the newt, thus they could be liable to be fined (now I am not sure here so you would need to ask a newt expert what constitutes suitable habitat for the critter) but these are the avenues I would be exploring to force the council to clean up their act

The more I think about this, the bigger the can of worms gets, so I've stopped thinking about it and got onto our town councillor instead.  To my amazement, he replied to my email in an hour or so (on a Saturday afternoon!) and has undertaken to find out what he can about the latest situation on Monday and report back.

We shall see ...

PS Thanks for that, grendel  %%
