Billings fairmount lost fittings pack help
« on: June 17, 2016, 03:27:11 am »

Hi all I recently moved house and have misplaced the fittings pack that comes with the fairmount alpine kit and have tried to mail billings a few times now with no answer so was wondering if anyone had any ideas of a possible solution to locate a replacement pack without having to buy a complete kit just for this pack

Thanks in advance

I have some brass stanchions I had made for my Fairmount ,  same height as the white metal one but with a .75 mm top hole and two .50 mm . I will have a court up to see how many you will need . Have you the copper wire for the rails , if you were going to use that , I did not so I have the wire . There could be one or two bollards or whinch bits but not that sure . I was at the ship show last Saterday , Clyde Model Boats had a stand there you might be able to find enough bits there , but I do not think thy will have Billings stuff .

Hi thanks I have the wire . Just lost the clear tub with bollards lifebelt etc . I've tried contacting various billings suppliers but nobody answers for some reason and honestly thinking I'm going to have scratch build everything

Hi Mark it's basically the full fittings pack I'm looking for and just checked don't have the wire for rails either . Only packs I have are the kort nozzle pack . The shaft pack and the speed boats . The main pack with just about every brass fitting is what I've lost so kinda going to be stuck soon once I get the main structure completed

Thats a real shame - I don't know how hard billings parts are to get.  I do have the wire for the rails too though.  If you PM me your address I'll send you what I've got

I will have a look and see what was duplicated in my pack and send you them , I was short of tailing drums for the winch . I made them out of brass screws in the drill chuck with a selection of files and a junior hacksaw . As Mark says PM me your address and I will send you what I might have .

Cornwallmodelboats do a lot of Billings fittings, checked through your parts list and see if you can get them individually from them?

Thanks guys I'm going to rip apart the last of the boxes this week from moving house so hoping it turns up . If I can't find it after it I'll take u both up on your kind offers . Thank u

As for getting parts from billings they don't answer their mails on their own contact form or there posted uk distributer form . I've mailed Cornwall boats too to see if they could get a replacement pack but still awaiting reply . Got one distributor I'm talking to the now who has a damaged full kit so hopefully it's a reasonable price and I can use the extra parts of the kit for a future build as well as having my fairmount completed so all in all keeping my fingers crossed on everything

Well guys the good news is I've found the missing pack  :-))

Bad news is that I destroyed most of the moving boxes and have lost my boat room until it's tidied up along with a number of extra chores from my wife because of it

But hey at least I found what I was looking for lol

Sounds good I've been at mine for around 4 months off n on but hoping to have it complete in a few months depending on finances for electronics . Next issue I have at the moment is what couplings to use . I'm used to using fixed universal couplings but got a canning tug running with flexible coupling and with my club pond being littered with bags I'm thinking this may be a better route so it just bursts the securing pin and not the entire linkage if it locks up .

Then next year I will hopefully be heading to wicksteed and baln Moor shows for my first time

I set my couplings up with the huco type , then had a rethink , I still used the brass insets and replaced it with thick walled silicone tube ,it made a big differance to the shaft noise.
I called at  Balne Moor on my way home was made very welcome ,and it's a good set up .

Cool Al prob go down that road too as I really don't trust myself dodging pond debris as I seem to attract it .

Never been to shows down south so thinking Al give it a try . Always been a Glasgow guy but used to do Rosyth.  Edinburgh shows wi family about 15 yrs ago as well as launches at yarrows so hoping to take my square sausage and tattie scones down to the shows next year lol
