Hi Les, having bought your airbrush, can i advise you to get a compressor, the cost of canned air is very high 3 or 4 cans will get you a cheep one but i would say go up market a bit and get one wth an air tank, less chuffing gives a far superior finish.

Choice of paint type is up to you but practice on bits of cardboard etc, learn how to mix the paint and thinners etc, just remember that all paint settles and this needs careful mixing before you add the thinners, one other tip, try to keep manufacturers together, dont cross paint and thinners, they dont always match

Thanks for the advice Mark.
I have a compressor with a regulator  (from Mr Aldi)
I note your comments on brands. I don't know much about painting but I am leaning towards acrylic paints as that is what I have painted the hull with.
I watched a chap on YouTube showing how to make your own acrylic thinners for a fraction of the cost of the retail stuff. It's mostly water and IPA with 2 small additions. He was saying it works very well, I might experiment with that.

Come on Les,
Don't spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar !
You have spent a lot of cash on a decent kit and you have done so well with your build.
Now it deserves spending out in time and materials to do it justice. Never heard of making homemade thinners but it might work, try it on a test piece first if you do go down that road.
Sorry....

I agree totally.
I saw the video and the chap seemed to speak like he knew what he is talking about.
But I wont take any silly risks. (I hate rubbing down too much). I might try an experiment or two but not on the Boat.

If anyone is interested this is the link to the video.
