HMS Alacrity Type 21 Frigate - Boot fair Find
« on: July 10, 2016, 11:04:19 am »

This mornings find at the boot fair, an uncompleted type 21 Frigate HMS Alacrity. Hull some superstructure parts, prop shafts and a few figures, probably about 1:;72 scale (I wont be sure until I measure the figures) - £10.
probably worth it for the prop shafts and props alone.
from the rubber on the stand (hard and brittle) probably at least 20 years old, but with a styrene hull.
Pictures in a minute when I have taken them.

pictures ready, not 1:72, the figures are only 18mm - 1:96 or 1:100 ish maybe.

I'm not even 100% sure all the bits are for that model, the colours are slightly different, and I cant figure how the superstructure sits.

Oh and once I looked inside - the hull is fibreglass.

after checking pictures, the superstructure is there, just two parts dont slide one into the other at the deeper part of the back of the upper section. the rust came off the prop shafts with some wire wool, but with the prop screwed right on the shaft is about 1/4" short. 4mm shaft.

forgive me for saying, but it looks like a GRP hull, rather than a styrene plastic hull.

another nice find this morning, just a hull and running gear, about 40" x 12" wide, could be a tug hull - £10, only thing missing was a transmitter, pictures when I get it somewhere I can get them.

its 53" x 12" now I have measured it.
it has been cat scanned,
the motor is an 800 torpedo, runs, but arcs badly, with smoke, radio is 27meg, and it has a viper speed controller (its been oversprayed with black so not sure which one.

It's quite possible that the superstructure to be another shade of grey ( :embarrassed:!) as it could have manufactured at a different time with a different batch of resin.  You'll have to build some kind of structure for the moulded superstructure to fit over.  I think this is the old Sirmar kit!
Check out https://www.scalewarship.com/store/index.php?route=common/home  they've got Type 21 bit in 1/96th scale
