Plans? Armed trawler
« on: August 06, 2016, 10:44:31 am »

Hope somebody can help. On the cover of John Cundell's book "Radio control for model boats", there is a picture of an armed trawler which captures my fancy. I presume these plans are available but what is the name of the boat? Also, is it suitable for a beginner/average modeller? A very attractive build, by the look of it.
Many thanks.

There is lots of plans for armed trawlers or drifters kicking about  :-))

The picture you are talking about looks like the osprey kit from mountfleet.
But you can get various hulls and parts to do your own

The model on the cover is indeed a Mountfleet "Osprey". The kit is still available from them.

My review of the kit, from 1999, good lord is it that long ago! Can be found here: https://www.mountfleetmodels.co.uk/downloads/osprey_mb_08_99108b2.pdf

Some modifications have been carried out in the intervening period though.

Soggyboxers,
Here is a page that might help with what your thinking about...

http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/naval_trawlers.htm

There is a few friends building armed trawlers at the present,
I am building a mountfleet Sir Lancelot, a friend is building one based on a fish class and another a strath class

It depends on what size you are wanting and type.
Willie wood in Aberdeen makes some great hulls ideal for converting for both trawlers and drifters

I have a set of drawings by John Lambert for a British Anti-Submarine Trawler, H,M,S St Appollo or St Zeno, it is just the deck plane so no frames.
