Old model boat
« on: August 23, 2016, 12:22:37 pm »

Got a chap on the door  from a neighbour saying the girl over the back was selling  a boat (getting rid of her Xs gear) at the market and got silly offers. Popped round and mugs bought it. Seems solid enough but I recon its old as the ply is cracked and paint paint work has  seen better days. Got an 2.4 7 channel Rx and a ESA which has 3 big leds wired to it. A motor unknown but has a number on it also a 12v 7 amp  rechargable battery. The shaft motor is out of line and some work or replacement to the shaft is in order looks too long. It has had an I.C in it as the inside of the hull was covered with fuel. I cleaned it up and put into pecking order of build hope I live to 100 cause thats the time I'll get round to it LO.L.

Looking at the hull I might try and get a double model  by building a changeable superstructure as the hull could be come an MTB not a Perkasa too many of em about but the type that was in the film  "There Were Expendable". and its current cabin cruiser superstructure.

Haven't a clue what model it is but has a fiberglass hull.

Hi Seaspray

Not to bad a buy.
Looks like it was IC and was in the goes of changing over to electric, has the motor has not been fully installed.
That's why the shaft looks to long!!!
By the look of the boat size a good brushless motor and Lipo battery would get it back to it's old performance without the noise.
You are like me, so many projects, have to life to 100!!!

I have that movie!!!

The motor is glue in to the hull with epoxy So its  a complete strip job. If it was glued on top of the engine mounting the length of shaft would be about right but the coupling would be out of line b.  As I said its well down the line of projects. Just saved it from being dumped/firewood

hi Martin
you are a typical Scotsman always falling on your feet :-) the hull actually reminds me of the old Whaleback hull - does the deck have a curve on it fore and aft :-) I note it doesn't have any bilge keels :-)

Hi John
The decks have no curves but there is a strip of wood possibly a stringer along the bottom of the hull side. Its got a planning hull and remeasured it acrooss the cabin front its 12 inchs tapering to 9 inchs at the stern Don't think I'll get round to fixing this one

Hi Seaspray

By the looks of the engine mount and other bits in the engine bay, they are only glue in poorly.
I would remove the lot, clean it up with a good sanding and start fresh.
What length is the boat??

It has been just poorly glued in but it solid so when the time comes I'll use the dremel round the side  the engine mount and take it out Its a good type of engine mount  Remove as much as possible of other bits and pieces in the hull give it a little scrub and paint it Hoping to use the original engine mount as it seems to be part of the hull and looks like it would line up with the prop shaft hole 49 inches long 12 inches at the front of the cabin and 9 inches at the stern it heavy too

Trying to find out what motor is in there  Ron says to go brushless and that'll be the way I'll go

Hi Seaspray
May of had a 10cc IC motor like a Merco 61.
What size prop is on the boat?
This would give us an idea of what setup you would require, also what speed do you require the boat to do??
Scale, bit over scale, fast, dam fast or insane !!!!!!
I like the dam fast as required.
