Trent colour changes
« on: September 09, 2016, 09:47:26 pm »

For all those people who are building a Trent lifeboat, you now have a different colour option on a lot of the parts. The RNLI are now changing the colour of various parts of the boat. One of the most noticible changes is on the hull. I think there are 90 changes in total. The colour under the waterline of the hull will now be painted black and not antifoul red oxide. Lots of the stanchions, hand rails, etc. will now be finished in polished alloy and not painted. I have been shown where all the changes are on the boat and it should look really good when completed. The first boat to have these changes will be the 14-02 Esme Anderson.

They haven't started work on the boat yet, I have just been shown what will change on the boat. When the boat comes back from Ireland I will take a lot of photo's. It should be an interesting change for modellers to choose which colour scheme to go for, the old or new.

Same is already happening on the Severns already, bringing them inline with paint spec on Shannon. One assumes Tamar's will be next also.

The change to anti-foul from red to black is supposedly due to the black being more hardwearing and lasting  1-2 years longer between applications.

A good post showing differences on Severns here: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,53494.msg572972.html#msg572972

It's often described as a galvanised effect, however I'd suggest judging on what Nick has been told it's shotblasted alloy clear coated.

Very hard wearing the Shannon's have all been built like it and the At85s have had the radar/righting bars done the same.
