Hitec crystals are colour coded green = single conversion blue = double conversion i'm sure that is the right way round if not  someone more knowledgable than I will put it right

I've used the same crystals in Futaba and Hitec (AM equipment) transmitters with no problem. I've also used a Futaba Tx and Hitec Rx combination (and vice versa) with no problem.

Never used dual conversion equipment so can't comment.

Cheers

;D ;D  I wish someone would write a good article in the description of single/dual conversion crystals cos I know there are people who can do just that.   I know which board it would go straight onto.

On another side, Ive got a HiTec transmitter, single conversion (at least I think it is  :P) Focus 6  - no mention of dual conversion of the actual transmitter but, I do have 2 dual conversions receivers and I must use dual conversion crystals otherwise no other crystals work in it i.e. Futaba or Sanwa.

I must confess though, mind, there are a lot of people who mix and match the radio systems HiTec and Futaba receivers and soforth - I have always tried to keep HiTec with HiTec and Futaba with Futaba because I have seen a situation where a model was prone to glitching and erratic movements of servos for no reason - both on the bench and on the model and the cause of it was - a Sanwa receiver with a Futaba transmitter with Sanwa crystals in.

I am a firm believer, if we try and keep them all the same, at least it eliminates this factor out of the problem if you have a problem with glitching or stuff like that  ;D

John, I know a reasonable amount about radio control principles, but even so, I have learnt a lot from an article by Stan Yeo which can be found on the following website:   www.phoenixmp.com/articles   It can be, and is well worth, downloading.

Got to thinking, so i set out all the receivers and trannies Ive got this is what i found

Hitec  single conversion   40.715 RA CH54 on white strip
Hitec   Duel conversion     40.765 RF CH57 on white strip
Futaba                              FM RX  40.985  92 IN WHITE CIRCLE on black and white strip

Don't know about AM sets as I don't have one smallest Ive got is a 3 channel

Hi Bluebird - your tranny is single conversion - only receivers are either single or dual. Dual conversion gives better resistance to interference, and you MUST use the correct type of  crytals in the receiver, possibly also the correct make - not sure about that.

You should equally use the correct make of crystals in your Tx, not so important in your Rx. I inadvertently used a Hitec crystal in my Futaba Tx and we couldn't understand why our scanner was showing we had one more frequency in use than Txs switched on, until we turned off my Tx. It was operating on two channels!
