stainless steel railings
« on: October 31, 2016, 09:26:36 pm »

Hi does anyone know where I can get this type of railing for my model warship please? they are usually available as 250mm long and  11mm high. Stainless steel
The only ones I can find are pretty expensive, and I need 14 lengths
Thanks

Just googled it to make sure, look up aeronaut/steingrabber for more info. You had better sit done first, they are £6 odd a length. But worth it for the result you get, I think they are nickel silver as they solder quite well . Also you can wiggle the stanchion free to line up if the gap is not right.Nemesis

Had you thought of using photo etch as you can readily purchase the stanchions - about 200 for £10/£15 range. You then thread them with 0.5mm brass wire or fine guitar strings. They are amazingly flexible and strong as well and may work out a lot cheaper.

I assemble mine off the ship into long lengths then spray them which holds it all together before fitting.

Cheers

Thanks Geoff,
I had thought of using photo etched, but didnt fancy the idea to be honest. As well as the fact that my hands are very shaky, which makes things like soldeing or spot glueing,or even screwing in a screw, very difficult at times.
I'm all for the easiest way, which I think using the type of fencing I have chosen, the best option.
