Very Unusual Torpedo Boat
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:59:06 pm »

I am a member of the Oeamtc, Austrian equivalent of the AA or RAC and get a monthly magazine. This article was in the digital edition, in German of course, but well worth scrolling through the photos and videos. Absolutely fascinating and a relatively simple boat to model, although not without a few challenges I would say.

Enjoy, Terry.

Hi,

I think this is taken from Harold Foch's excellent book (German text only) about fast boats and launches.

Very good, if you can find a copy!

There is another link in the AUTOtouring electronic pages......this then can be translated to English........

http://www.visionaer.info/

It is termed as "The first Air Cushioned Boat in the World"............... very interesting propulsion system........Derek

"On October 18, 1915, the world's first test ride of a fully functional air cushion boat took place. The inventor and designer was Dagobert Mueller of Thomamühl, the line ship's lieutenant of the Imperial Kriegsmarine. The "air cushion glider" designed as a fast torpedo boat reached 33 knots. It was driven by five air motors, one of which produced a draft under the ship's body"

Eminently buildable. The most complicated bits as I see it would be the troughs for the torpedoes, but even these could be made from tube cut in half.

The ribbing could be added after the skin has been fitted or even stuck onto the ply/sheet material before it is fitted.

The one question I have is wether the boat's hull would slam on the water even with an air cushion system?
