I have The proxxon DS 460 and love it , reasonably quiet , easy to tension and change the blade and make a lovely clean cut . But as you say Chris  it's slightly more expensive but I feel it was well worth the extra ££ . I hope it will do me a long time .

John

Thanks John, that will do for me.

I'll get Christmas out of the way and take a trip over to Nuneaton. I've finished the DIY for the time being but now have to clear out the smallest bedroom, which is a major task, to make room, before I can start any boat building.

Dave - it looks as though we're both at a similar stage in our model boat building journey. Part of the enjoyment for me is gathering the tools etc. together in readiness. I'm chomping at the bit to get started now!

Chris one thing I will say is that the Proxxon DS 460 was on  back order from the proxxon factory at the Time I ordered mine . Might be worth looking into that now , rather than ordering and having to wait a month for it to be back in stock .
Lol I know I hate it when that happens .

Thanks for the heads up.

To be honest though it's going to take some time to clear the bedroom. Gawd knows where I'm going to put the stuff, I'm already renting one of those small storage units and my single garage is full of motor bikes and push bikes!

I need to get a new shed (a bigger one) but that's a job for later into next year. I've done a lot of work inside and outside the house this year and have had enough of it for now.

I prefer to be in the house anyway (though the shed would be good for paint spraying in the summer) and my drawing boards in there from when I did plans for extensions etc.

My wife has tried to get me to get rid of it on a number of occasions as it takes up quite a bit of room but I've resisted - glad I did as it provides a good base for building on.

I have a delta two wheel bandsaw, And it is great, Cuts very true blade change is easy. I tend to use a 3/8th blade for general use but put in a 1/4 for cutting tighter curves.
I get my blades from Axminster power tools, they have a range of there own blades that are very good (excaliber range) and service is good.

I found the secret of a good cut is always use a sharp blade don't force the cut and keep the saw clean, they do create a lot of sawdust.
One of the most used tools in the workshop.
