NNF, yeah you're getting there. It's not so much where you place the ballast it's more where you put the ballast c of g. Take for example the best ballast(SLA batteries), placed on the bottom vertical gives a higher c of g. than laid on their sides. I have a model of Parat, a Voith tug. It needed no ballast, the two specified batteries were all that was required. I only needed to move them aft by 1/2". Mounted laying down the boat was very stiff, mounted vertically was perfect.

Try watching this at half speed on a PC. The c of g of boiler, gas tank and engine is quite high. It was also very windy on the day. Boat is also a little overweight sitting below her design waterline. No additional ballast, trimmed f&a by placement of steam plant.
Enjoy.
Jerry.

Mike,

Might be worth posting a picture for some clarity, im guessing silicone sealant or P38 filler and also whether any pressure being applied.

The units, when new, come with a strip of mastic type sealant. Don't screw em down too tight to avoid distortion.

Suggest we change the subject matter to Voith Units.
On that subject I have expoxied both my VS units in but have ensured I can remove the motors should any failure occur. ;D
