HMS SENTINEL 1983
« on: January 09, 2017, 08:44:24 pm »

In 1983 the navy used an ex oil rig ship at the Failklands, and named her HMS SENTINEL.
I remember (I think) seeing a picture of her with two 40mm Bofors mounted beside the funnels.
Question is, can anyone point me at a source of a picture that can confirm this?
Cheers

Google HMS Sentinel and click on photos.
You will see her with the 40mm Bofors

Thank you Ned; I have tried that but cannot find a picture showing the guns.
Perhaps I should visit S.E.S.V.R !!

Thank you both; I have found the pictures, about 5 all together, super for general finish, nams plate etc  BUT, I cannot see the guns clearly on any of them, and it is gun location which is my problem.
Once again thanks for the help.
Cheers  Jim :((

This one shows the gun position relatively well if you zoom in...

That name dragged up memories of past glory, went back to the Falklands (83/84ish) as OC RM with NP2010 (?). Had guys based on the Sentinel, Guardian and Protector zooming around in RIBs and doing shore patrols. Unfortunately no pictures from that time.

You could try the navy-net forum, bound to be a few old salts with pictures from their time on board.

Amazing how you can look and not see! Many thanks to all for responses, and particularly to Ned for his patience.
I do wonder if any of the gunners have photo's of "their" gun.
Once again thanks
