The Model Zone concession inside WH Smith in the centre of Birmingham (England) is to close at the end of Jan 2017.


According to the notices inside the shop.

Looks like the same is happening with the Manchester (Arndale) store. Called in the other day, to find the shelves virtually empty, staff were cleaning the display cabinets, etc. ready for the future use of the area.

Although the shop sold mainly plastic kits, model railways and high quality die-cast cars, it was handy to be able to buy items such as paints and brushes.

Yes, it is a shame to see probably the last chain of toy/model shops dissapear from our highstreets. Deloitte's have been slowy winding the chain up since about 2013. Another name lost along with Gamleys and the chain of model shops whose name I forget but I think began with 'B'.

That's right! Thanks Howard. I never had one near where I lived, but while at college I visited the Aylesbury one regularly.

Are there any other model shop chains out there in existence?
