hi gents once again looking for advice  i am trying to build a incomplet kit and need (acording to the plans )5x5mm obechi..top rail no 57 on photo...it has the little grove that fits over top of hull    does any one know were i could buy some from ,,i need  about 150 cm that would do both sides best regards paddy...  the model kit is made by a company called R.M MARINE no longer trading  thank you

There was some of that in the Caldercraft
Amaranth kit.

dave.................neil has just told me he has metre upon metre of this that he made some years ago when he was designing a model for frank hinchliffe......he will be in the Childwall five ways pub  on queens drive at 11.30 am on Saturday, this coming weekend....you can have a few metres of the stuff if you want, and he'll bring it down.........he's meeting his old college girlfriend and a couple of friends and then moving on to another friends at about 12.00 - 12.15. the five ways is a big pub at the bottom of childwall valley road hill........his phone no. *********** and you are welcome to some.. it is also made from obeche'.

If you had to make it yourself, then two options would be,

1) Mill it on the table saw, cut the square bit, then dado the center with a low blade setting.

2) Cut a square piece for the center, then cement a side plate on either side.

In either build up, knock the corners off with sand paper, and you have a cap rail.

I did something similar to Umi on one of my boats, for the cap rail. One strip the width of the rail and two smaller strips that fitted under the sides, this then hides the join on the side edge which is less visible than it they were on the top.
The advantage of either method is that you can go around bends in the railing. Do the straight part of the run first, and let the glue dry. Then do a few inches of the bend, glue up and let it dry, then do the next few inches etc. This way the cap rail can easily follow the curves of the deck/hull/bulwarks, without twist and distortion. It really was much easier than I thought it would be.
