Beale Park 2017
« on: April 30, 2017, 07:06:52 pm »

Many thanks to Mid Thames MBC and Beale Park for a very enjoyable event.  There were quite a few clubs represented, and for the most part it was sunny if a little windy.  Just a few spots of rain near the end, but not enough to encourage early leavers.  Here are some photos I took today.

We were assured that next year it will be back to it's usual two days, on the same weekend

Nice to meet Bob K and everyone else at the event. I can now confirm that not all Mayhemmers are wild eyed, long haired, almost Ben Gunn crazy types %) .
Anyway, more photos...

We dodged the weather, and apart from an occasional stiff breeze, it was the perfect sailing day. All the clubs present took advantage of the water and some more photos covering that follow..

Two of my favourites next. The little tug from MMB and a very nice shovel nosed Hydroplane.

Ohio does NOT have a flight deck, despite the best efforts of my fellow members and a roll of gaffer tape, to prove otherwise!!

A coming together of two build threads on the water, Bob K's HMS Polyphemus and my SS Ohio. Both designed for water ballast systems, Bobs now removed and mine untested when free floating.

A bit of U-Boat action on and under the water, plus photo bombing one of my Ohio photos..tart!

Went for a walk around the site. The late Richard Howards stamp could be seen on the whole place, either the unique Model Boat Museum, or the wonderful sculptures dotted around the venue. There is always something new to spot in the quirky museum, this time a new Titanic exhibit and a big Short Sunderland hanging from the ceiling. They may have been there for ages but taking the time to look around properly, something always leaps out at you.
No pressure guys, but the Mid Thames boys need to keep the model boating flag flying at Beale, now we don't have the influence of Richard Howard, whose personality, and super keen enthusiasm will be sorely missed.

I like the mixture of real wildlife and sculpted aminals, it is a clever idea and very attractive.

Nice photos unbuiltnautilus.  I was glad to see HMS Canopus still has her ship's cat aboard.
Polyphemus still has her 'dive' system, but too choppy to risk it on Sunday. After two famous mishaps I tend to be more cautious these days.

Hopefully this event will grow again, despite the sad loss of Richard last month.  I was told that it is planned for two days again next year, same weekend.
