Adhesive advice
« on: April 30, 2017, 09:45:04 am »

I am about to fit the keel strake between the wooden hull and the brass outer prop shaft, but I am unsure which of my glues to use to make the best bond between the metal and the wood surfaces. Advice much appreciated as always.

Regards, Glyn.

Personally I would use any epoxy Araldite Gorilla etc or a resin
Rub the shaft with fine wire wool and degrease

For this purpose, I always use Rapid Araldite and have had no problems.  Pete

Epoxy glues can be very very strong and have so far been very forgiving of my slap on and hope method of modelling:O)

Contact adhesives are a bit messy though are best for joining flexible items to solid, though some materials will resist it's stickiness.

Cyanos are good for tacking and smaller work, as well as thread locking but are brittle unless you try the rubberised type which is more potent.
