graupner pollux 2 Kit and rtr
« on: August 25, 2017, 02:47:29 pm »

I have just bought a graupner pollux 2 rtr tug boat and have a few questions

The battery that comes in the box is a very small race pack type battery of about 260 mAh so I don't think it will have a good run time so have got a 6 volt 1.3 mAh lead acid battery .

The lead acid is what they recommend for the kit version of the Pollux but not sure how it fits without making it nose heavy ? . It's not shown in the instructions has anyone got a Pollux they can post some pictures showing the battery setup ?

I wish I had just bought the kit version as the radio gear is very cheap it the rtr and not worth the money and it's not a hard kit to put together.  Hope this helps someone else not make the same mistake of buying the rtr

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Oliver, surprised that the radio is poor, Graupner are usually very good, or are they building down to a price???
2 things.
1. I would use a 7.2volt buggy type pack, not a lead acid battery. I have been using 1 in my RTR Southampton.
2. If and when the radio packs up. It is very easy to fit quality gear, run it till it breaks then change

Hello Oliver, have a look at this thread: www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,34679.msg365473.html#msg365473

...look at reply no.13, there's a few photos of my Pollux - the photo of the set up is a little bit blurry but might help you.

Regards,

Ray.

Thanks capt podge & jarvo  :-))

Think I have it sorted now hopefully.

I have gone with the lead acid batteries I ordered .I think a 7.2 race pack may have been too long as the pollux is a bit smaller than the Southampton tug .

had to make an adapter lead to connect the battery up to the supplied radio gear and use a few self-adhesive car tyre weights to balance the boat . have tried it in the bath and it seems to sit just right in the water

I have included a few photos of the boat now it's set up and radio gear

I might  change to a mtroniks viper marine and separate 2.4ghz receiver later on will see how it goes for now though

it's getting its first outing at the Breen sands model week starting Friday

thanks for your help

Looks like it will be too heavy, I use these and have seem them in a few others..

Suppose it depends what you want from the Pollux.

I will see how it goes when I try it on the water.

it needs the weight as its a very lightweight plastic boat when I tried it in the bath it seemed about right

the 6 volt 1.2 mAh lead acid is not that heavy really is probably not much in it between that and the pack you suggested but may order one next time I do an order with the component shop to try anyway

the 6 volt 1.2 mAh lead acid is what graupner recommend for the kit why They supply very small race pack with the rtr  I don't know.

to give you an idea of the one supplied by graupner it's like the ones it those cheap 20 inch £30 racing boats you get on eBay

not sure what you mean by it depends what you want from the Pollux ?  its a tug boat so slow and steady and plenty of run time
