Graupner Multijet Pilot boat
« on: August 28, 2017, 11:30:45 pm »

Has anyone built the Graupner Multijet??

I have one to build but reading the instructions would like to confer with someone
who has built it already regarding the set up  :-)) :-))

Hi Gingyer,

What part of the set-up do you need?

If it's about the real boat in CG form, there used to be a load of stuff on the USCG website.

I built one in 2009 with home made jets (Topic: US Coastguard 45ft RB-M) but (a) it leaked round the jet drive units and (b) it needed more ballast to get the initial drive to 'suck'
but it's a very good looking boat.

Thanks TonyH
I got some info from the uscg website

I'm looking for some input into the RC set up in the instructions it doesn't give much information
But when you look at the accessories they recommend you get it says you NEED a computerised radio system that you can program, for going reverse. My query is why??
I know the buckets need to be activated when going reverse and the motors still go forward
But is there another reason as this could be done with a switch

Hi gingyer,

The only thing I can think of is that without brakes you may not have time to think ahead and actuate the bucket?

Thanks Tony,
I was thinking similarly...

you would of thought if graupner were stating something was needed they would of explained why
and how it was to be used {:-{

Hi Gingyer, I have built three waterjet powered boats to date and sail them with  old converted f14 radio's. Just using the standard layout of throttle, rudder to steer the nozzles and a switched channel to operate the reverse thrust buckets. I use brushless motors with helicopter esc's (you don't want reverse ). Hope that helps.

I didn't see the bevel across the front of the pilot house, or I would have made an attempt to modify that foward slope. But I had already assembled it by the time I noticed the difference.

I do have molds for all the modded parts "so far".
So, I can cast any of the added parts, short of the slit vents and fuel filler and vent space.

I am planning forward only, but with separate reverse bucket controls.
Just switches, no computer programming for reverse.

My biggest lament, is that I found this... way too much detail.  %)

I've got one of these too, I notice the the bucket sections are bolted to the ends of the jet drive outlet tubes, sandwiching the transom between them, but when I do this on mine, the bucket section sits just proud of the transom by a couple of millimetres, Do the outlet tubes need trimming flush with the outer face of the transom?
This would mean the buckets would be fitted flush against the transom making it more secure and easier to seal.

I don't think you can trim them enough to flush the buckets in the open and closed position.
I plan on adding a 6mm (+/-) half round orange fendering around the sides.
Maybe a silver/gray one can be run across the stern.
