ship terminology
« on: September 05, 2007, 09:33:49 am »

I'm pretty sure I have got this right, but I recently came across the term "air draught". I assume this is the distance from the LWL to the highest point of the ship, eg the mast truck. Can some kind person confirm?

Yes, that's correct.
You'll often see the expression "low air draught" used for the river/sea coasters such as those operated by Union Shipping( www.uniontransport.co.uk)

"Air Draught" is always a consideration with any vessel when transiting inland water ways and going below bridges etc.
