Help needed with Billings Danmark kit
« on: February 03, 2018, 12:50:55 pm »

Hello All, I've just joined up and am looking for some help.

I bought a job lot of " started" models from Ebay that someone fished out of a loft. One of them is the Billings "Danmark" kit, looks to date from the 60's or 70's. All the wooden parts seem to be there, and the keel, bulkheads and upper deck are assembled. The structure had warped a bit but I have manged to get it straight again. No sign of any fittings at all, however, apart from the bow boards and figurehead. If I remember rightly, Billings used to supply fittings for each kit in a separate box, which you bought separately. I have been in touch with Billings and their UK distributors, but they can't/won't supply a separate fittings set. My other problem is that although the drawings are okay, the instruction booklet has been part eaten by mice!
I am looking out on Ebay for a fittings set, I've located two but they are abroad, expensive, and postage is prohibitive.
So,
- has anyone got a surplus fittings set for Danmark that they are willing to sell? ( long shot, I know!)
- has anyone made the Danmark kit and still got the fittings list that I could copy? I could then probably buy most items piece-by-piece.
- has anyone made the Danmark kit and still got the instruction booklet that I could copy?
Also, any tips on making this model would be most welcome.
Looking forward to making good use of this website as I approach retirement and getting down to some serious modelling!

I had to try a few times before the PDF manual opened but that may be my machine , or  broadband  or b*****y Virgin router again

Many thanks, Mr Baldrick sir, glad that you had a cunning plan........ That has given me a good start. It seems that, not surprisingly, "Danmark" as she is today  has quite a few changes from when my kit was produced maybe forty years ago, mostly in deck fittings, boats, etc.Quite a lot of comparison and research to be done, which I will enjoy as much as the build.

Enjoy and welcome. Actually the Danmark built manual up there on PDF is a damn site better than the one for the Nordkap which left a lot of scope for guesswork . That's the thing about model boat building, nobody else's build will be identical . Yours will always be unique.
