Whilst attempting to beat the World Water Speed Record, John Cobb was killed in 'Crusader' on Loch Ness in September 1952 having completed a first run at over 200mph.
On Sunday 9th September, 55 years after Cobb's death, Eddy Matthews and myself gave the model a run at Edinburgh Model Boat Club's annual regatta. The weather was gusty and full throttle was not used plus the boat was running on 12 rather than the maximum 16 cells. Nevertheless the runs were very impressive and brought the rest of the activities to a temporary halt whilst people watched. A fitting tribute to one of my childhood heros
