identify model and owner
« on: February 22, 2018, 10:05:50 pm »

many years ago, 32 years ago in fact I built a model of a famous but sad  trawler from Fleetwood lost with all hands during a home bound trip from Iceland called Red Falcon.
it made the local papers, appeared at the 1985 Fleetwood model Ship exhibition along side and also appeared in the Model Boats magazine.

shortly afterwards and long before I ever got a computer I received a letter from a man in Australia asking if I could send him a copy of the plans for the trawler as he would like to build a model..............I sent them and he said he was going to get a friend to help him build it......a couple of years later he sent me this photo of his model..........can't remember his name or the location of the club lake.

does any of our OZZIE  friends know who owned and built it or the club lake on which he was sailing.

I know a very long shot.............but the power of mayhem and all that.

From the colour of the water and the scenery at the back it could be Ringwood Lake in Melbourne.
I sailed with the club there for a number of years but there were many members and visitors and I cannot recall the boat.   I will send a copy of the photo to another old member to see if he knows anything.   It might take a while for him to reply.
The local Council "beautified" the lake and the club folded.  <:(

thanks Brian................... and the name Ringwood actually rings a bell in my aging mind, as I had a friend back here in uk whos parents lived in Ringwood Hampshire.................and visited his parents house numerous times in the late 70's early 80's after coming back from OZZ myself............thank you.

Neil, I tried to modify your post by saving the image, rotating it 90 degrees, saving it again, deleting your original image then re-attaching the modified image, but it still remains obstinately vertical. Perhaps Martin will have a go, he knows more about computers than I do {:-{

Hi Neil
I am sorry that neither Dave nor myself can remember the boat or owner.
I moved on to 00 gauge model railways about 1987 and Dave moved house around then.
I am almost certain it is Ringwood Lake.  Blowing the photo up I can just discern the outfall in the background.
This is what it looks like now.   Even the model boat launching area is called 'fishing deck'.  >>:-(
