SPIDERS ...love them or hate them
« on: June 22, 2018, 06:42:21 pm »

but what ever your thoughts, have you ever seen one as unusal as this little creature.

it's called the Chinese Hourglass spider, and is very rare indeed......totally placid, none toxic and shy, it lives in a burrow with the end of its abdomen with the Medal on the end of its abdomen showing upwards like a devils face to scare off predators……..

it is kept by rich Chinese as a pet as it is very placid and "friendly" with no bite. Also known as a Chinese bird eating spider one recently sold for just over 1900US$.

I actually love spiders, and have kept a red knee'd  tarantula in my classroom for a couple of years when teaching, and an Australian grey wolf bird eater in my bedroom whilst living in Canberra...that one was the size of 2 overlapping hands, but this little rascal is absolutely beautiful as a creature and just over an inch long...…….some will hate it, but yes or no, it is one of natures amazing living critters, and I love it.

Isn't evolution wonderful? There is a spider that dances with a really colourful abdomen that the Male expands and wiggles about. I don't know if this is to attract the lady spiders, or similar to the Hourglass uses his colourful 'bottom' to deter predators etc?
