Hi when you cut the sails out from the cloth make sure that the longest side of each sail is lined up with the selvedge of the cloth. That is the place where the cloth does not stretch.
When you cut the bottom corner of the main sail where the boom connects to the mast (gooseneck) this is not a right angle. It is a bit less and makes all the difference to how the sail hangs.
I usually set the gaff at 45 degrees to the mast.

Well the project is at last finished apart from lettering for name and reg. Only taken nearly 6 years (plus the other 60 I have had ownership). In the end I decided that rather than a replica, it would be an "objet d'art", giving me the excuse to take liberties, hence the sails are made from some scrap alloy sheet. I am quite happy with it , even the wife likes it! Thanks for everyone's help and advice.
