Hydromite plan.
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:48:37 pm »

Found this on the net the other day.

http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/plans/hydromite.htm

It looks like it could be a fun build in any size, possible with a small nitro engine in a large one.

Has any one built one?  ;D

Heres a video I found.

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-2796233146728792079&q=hydromite&total=6&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

Not much info on it but at a guess a brushless motor in a std size hull.

This is probably  a silly question but does this type of boat have to be driven semi-submered or can it be driven submered? If so would it be possible to create a F1 tunnel type model from this hull running a outboard like the kyosho wavemaster.

Here is my hydromite.

Only been on the water once, I made the mistake of being too easy on the throttle - result - made like a submarine and went 6 inches under before i let go the stick. Now awaiting a new speed controller.

Does this style of boat would like a tunnel hull by forcing air under it self. If so a outboard could be used to power one.

The theory is that it sits on the water on the trailing edge of the sponsons and the surface peircing prop, so, maybe an outboard with a suitable prop would be worth a try.

I plan to use a Graupner GTX 500 outboard.

have to say, I have no idea how it will perform with an outboard, but give it a go and share some pics with us.

You will have to be careful to adjust the c of g, as the conventional set up with an internal motor puts some weight at just the right place. The outboard will shift weight to the stern which will need compensating for by positioning the batteries differently.

Just some more plans that I found all Hydro's and some shovel noses.

http://www.astecmodels.co.uk/plans.htm

I like them because they are in different scales so no more messing with a photocopier.

Found this on the net. Looks like a RTR hydromite with a brushless motor.

http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=mcr-hydro

At the price: $299.00 it is still cheaper to build one.

Fast little b****r.

I have to wonder if the producers have bought the rights to build and sell. I have read somewhere that the free plans were being withdrawn due to being used commercially. hmmm

However the RTR boat you can buy all the hardware separately, this could be used

At $49.00 its still not cheap but saying that if you buy it here in the UK separately it about the same price
