Some plastic magic
« on: August 28, 2018, 08:27:47 pm »

Hi everyone

For a project for a show later on this year I’m building the Merit 1/200 scale Mikasa kit into a rc model. It will not however end up as IJN Mikasa but as a fictional warship from my one of my favourite books which was turned into an audio adventure forty years ago.
Anyway whilst you work out the name of the ship I’ll tell you about the beautiful wooden deck I bought from eBay by a company called Model Ship Studio. I think it’s one of the best wooden decks you can buy for small scale plastic models, it even surpasses the one I bought for my HMS Hood kit.
Nothing stuck together yet as I’m working out the best areas to make removable.

I agree, probably the same year I saw sitting looking magnificent on the bench too, luckily I bought this one off a mayhem member who sold it cheaply- I wasn’t going to argue over the price. I think that either Hobbyboss or Trumpeter may be making a kit in the same scale but probably a lot cheaper than the Merit kit.
The nice thing in the kit is the inclusion of the cowl vents so you can make an earlier version or in my case a British pre-Dreadnought.
