Hi Jay, we used to keep tropical marine fish before we got into reptile keeping.
They were really relaxing to watch, the vivid colours were breathtaking but expensive to maintain.

Ive totalled it up roughly and both me and SWMBO reckon we have spent the best part of a grand on fish and the equipment that they call home.

Hi All

When my brother and I were kids we used to keep fresh water fish. We used to save our pocket money for a few weeks and go to the pet store and buy a couple more for our tank. It worked out quite expensive to buy them from the pet store. One day we were walking around the back of a rich private school that was in our neighborhood and found a pond that was teaming with fish O0. We hatched a plan to come back on the weekend, when no one was around and take a few fish and add to our collection O0. It looked pretty impressive after getting the fish in the tank and feeling pretty pleased with ourselves on saving all that money we would have paid for these fish ;D ;D. About a week later we noticed a couple of fish went belly up and before we knew it they had all died . White spot, I seem to remember was the cause brought on by the FREE wild fish. We gave up on fish after that. Which just goes to show that there is no such thing as a free lunch, you have to pay, in some way, in the end.

Regards David

Much to SWMBO's annoyance, I have a lot of fish.

7 tanks in total, the largest of which is 1,100liters. It fills approc 1/4 of the living room! The filtration is so big that I had to drill holes in the lounge wall, and run piping into the garage. That was a good plan until we came to sell the house. Last thursday the surveyor came around found the holes in the wall ( 4 x 1 1/2" holes ). Was he happy? Not especially.....
