Im still toying with making the whole cabin removable
It would only require two cuts and it would lift off in one piece

Point taken, but how much more access would you gain or need? I had similar thoughts when I built mine but there was plenty of access via the roof, which comes off in one piece. I concluded that with the fuss of having to build coamings and some sort of retaining device it just wasn't worth the effort... and that would be a tricky transition from the open cockpit area to the for'd cabin space with those staggered cabin sides.

My motto is KISS. I have a lot of respect for the person who designed this model so I won't be changing details that fundamental as/when/if I get around to building my #2. Now..... laser-inscribed deck overlays is another matter entirely!

These two threads should be very interesting for all.  Seeing a very old model having to have a major refit  and a new build of a very old kit. See the link below repairing my old lobster boat.

Well Dave mine is a very snug fit so would need no fixings.
The joint between deck and cabin is masked with the mahogany trim
I just think it makes the whole job of painting and detailing with it off and upside down easier
It sits level and secure in the slots at F1andF2
Still undecided  :-))

I’m really happy with this now and one more resin coat will finish it ready for primer

Back to the detachable cabin scenario.
I propose two precision cuts at 45 angle
The lines are for impression only and will need to be moved to suit the rear section when it is trimmed flush to deck

Here

and here

The thickness of the cuts will be equal and negligible. The cabin can be moved back 1mm without being noticed leaving no gap.
The long side of the cabin has a natural tendency to spring outwards thus keeping itself tight to the deck edge

This additional brace out of sight maintains the width

The mahogany trim on the bridge shelf hides the joint too

If I may add my two-penneth gents - I did a similar thing with the Cranberry Isle version,
I made the whole cabin and rear well with additional false sides into a one piece lift off unit !

A floppy structure that required stabilizing with epoxy and matting,
this was left to dry and cast itself into a solid unit while jigged into position in the hull, worked all ok in the end.
Sadly was sold to a foreign gentleman at Beale Park who made me silly offer for my pair of Lobster boats
and they went back with him to Singapore ? HoHum.

Andy guessing your forward cabin sides may spring out of shape a little (flattening the curved sides)
if you make the cuts taking the tension out of the timber,
temporary cross braces in the cabin and with the roof glued on, it should form a nice solid structure,
an interesting little conundrum.

H'mm wondering if I still have the plans stashed in the collection ! tempted to build another,
they sit so nicely on the water and create a nice wake when on the move for a smallish model.  Paul

I think I'm going to complete the cabin then glue it  %%

Rudder foot is a success but I need to build the keel up a bit due to the 4 layers of resin between the mating surface.

Will look great with a Protean prop  :-))

Built a new front screen to fit

For the door I’ve chosen to relieve the outline with scalpel and file rather than us pinstripe tape

These are very close, possibly need the centre hole sleeving down in size

Looking good Andy ! your cracking photo's are stirring up great memories for me,
and I've spotted something else I did on both models that might help you -

I chopped a big hole in the first bulkhead - turning it into a 3/4 inch approx wide outline frame,
this allows access to flood lots of of resin and matt around the underside of the deck / stem / side skin joints,
nothing like a bit of overkill !

Certainly won’t be too fast.
Memory is failing I cannot find my RPM measurer  :((

The bed is now glassed in with SS nuts resined & clothed below.
Once set I'll remove the mount and replace the coupler with a microflex.
Hard to believe these excellent motors are less than £12
