Amera vs. SHG King Midas
« on: August 12, 2019, 10:09:15 am »

Hi Everyone,
So I have my first experience of RC Boats last week while on holidays in the Isle of Man, a friend we were staying with had gotten into the hobby and we went out RC boating. It was great!

I have quite a bit of experience with RC related models, planes, helicopters, cars both battery and fuel powered.

I think its time to branch out into boats, so the next time we visit we can both play.

Wanting to start off cheap and cheerful I thin I have narrowed my choices down to possibly 3.

The Amera W103 or the SHG King Midas? I have seen pictures of both around the internet but can I have any members photos of experiences of these kits, which is better, I am happy to add detail and build my own superstructures.

The third option is to build a simple springer... I do think I want to go down the tub route.

Many thanks,
Chris

having made the Amera fairy boat, I found it simple. basic tools reqd are scissors, craft knife sand paper various glues. paints I used halfords car paints. please wash all the mouldings though, as I found to my cost the with washing, they peeled off. I washed the primed with plastic primer, then normal halfords car paint.

Thanks for the recommendation of the Amera.
Washing the molding is a great idea, it was always the same with RC Car bodies as they had a releasing agent on them.
Good use of the halfords car paints.
Do you have any pictures of your finished boat and specs?
