Hi Leaky,

I will not be able to do anything more to the boats until after Christmas, but with the proven motor and ESC combo it currently has fitted, it will run OK  - but I do have the use of a bluetooth programming device that I will still try as the smaller ESC is a lot neater fit in the boat and it should be more than adequate for the size of motor that I will most likely be using.

Once the boat is running I will be able to see how the M4 prop shaft holds up.  I would usually choose to fit an M5 prop shaft, but this boat was started some time ago and if I was doing it again I would definitely fit the bigger dia. shaft.

After Christmas I will complete the painting and hope to get the boat on the water in the New Year.

Merry Christmas!

Bob.

Hi Bob
have you been able to sort the speed issue with the new ESC?

Hi Pete,

I have not been to the lake since fitting the replacement ESC, but I know it will work OK.

At the moment, I am currently changing the colour scheme and will be running the boat in its new colours this season.

I'm sure it'll be sorted this time and perform how you want it to.
Will be good to see you running it again sometime.

At last I sailed my Vic Smeed Remora in its new colours on the Southport club lake this morning. (Pictures available - and if I work out how to post them, I will add them here).

The model works very well, lifts onto the plane easily and steers beautifully.

The water cooled Turnigy 120 amp ESC looks far too big (and works really well) but I think I will try a smaller size version and use this one in my Javelin (the next model to receive some long overdue attention)!

The small Surpass 1100KV out-runner has a good power output that matches the boat’s needs very well and delivers as much speed as I can reasonably use on the Southport club lake using a 45mm standard nylon prop.

Power is from a 3cell Turnigy 5000mah LiPo.

….so after a disappointing start with the paint colours and a poor choice of ESC this lovely little boat is now “flying” and looks great on the water 👍

Now that I have the Remora running so well I need to attend to a few small “teething”  problems to make it a good everyday runner.

Firstly I need to glaze the cabin windows to keep any “deck-wash” out of the engine compartment.

The cabin fits well onto the deck but with the unexpectedly lively performance I would feel more comfortable if I added a secure fastener to keep it in place as it charges around the lake. Maybe some sort of screw or latch fastener - or maybe even some magnets?

….and as previously mentioned, I think I will fit a smaller sized ESC back in the rear compartment of the boat on the original mounting shelf that I first built for it, as this will look much neater and move it behind the engine bay firewall to keep it potentially much drier if the model should ship any more deck-wash in the future.
