Couplings & 540 motors- what your Favourite?
« on: October 03, 2007, 05:04:03 pm »

With the Huco Red coupling now at silly prices,  >:(
..... what your preferred coupling, supplier or method?

Just expanding this a bit .....

What is your favourite 540 / 550 size motor or motor or reduction setup?
(As this is such a wide area, lets just limit this to "slow" or "scale" type boats ie. not fast electrics please.)

I still use Huco or Dyco couplings.
The QA is getting worse, but still use them as I KNOW they will transmit the power and are easy to use.

I prefer Deans couplings. Even use them on my fast electric boat without any problems.

motors ,any available thats what i use
as for couplings i have started using a piece of threaded /drilled brass and a piece of petrol pipe from halfords, about £2.00 a meter, for the flexable joint and a couple of pins (copper wire)just like Bryan does for his drive lines  at M.M.M.
Also the splined connectors are a realy tight fit in the petrol pipe

Hi there,

I personally like to use the MFA 540 Motors - low drain ones - and also, I like to use, when I am driving props over 40 mm diameter I tend to use the MFA Olympus belt drives originally used by the fly lads - got a 2.3 : 1 reduction driving much larger props - I use the Dyco Couplings unit as well.  However, before I take the couplings out of the shop & BEFORE PAYING FOR THEM  I ask if I can try the brass inserts on a prop shaft and also a motor shaft to ensure that they are running true, because, I have had several of these where the hole is not drilled true in the centre
