Servo rods
« on: February 21, 2020, 08:26:44 am »

Servo rods with M2 thread on each end.
Tried shortening one and run an M2 die to make a new end.
BUT the rod is only 1.7mm diameter, as seems to be the standard size.
So how do I get a full M2 thread on the rod?

The threads on these rods are rolled not cut so the rod is undersized for the thread. If you need a thread on each end  then use solder extenders like these.

Am I the only one who still uses 2mm bicycle wheel spokes?. After several decades of use they've lasted well, very cheap too.

I bought some servo rods from Hobbyking that were a genuine 2mm because I had the same problem.
Don't know what steel they were made of but they certainly ruined a 2mm hss die very quickly and they were very brittle. In the end I got rod from an engineering firm on fleabay

JimG, after looking at your lin, I made my own.

Used m2 electical pcb stand offs.

rod has grooves and is soldered inside the brass.
long M2 bolt secured with lock nut.

Either...

Buy brass rod and thread it yourself
Buy the 2mm adapters you solder your own rods to from presumably the same range ( I did this 'tother week but not used them yet)
Epoxy the rod in the end

...go with the other suggestions. At the moment my scenario the other week was good old fashioned bending brass rod in pliers.  Which so far seems annoyingly to work ok at the moment.
