"VMBME - The Virtual Model Boat Mayhem Extravaganza!
« on: March 26, 2020, 09:46:10 am »

Maybe we could have a virtual Mayhem, posting photos of the boats we would have brought? (and will hopefully see next year)

So Colin says.....'Maybe we could have a virtual Mayhem" .....just need to remember Colin, that we members residing on far flung Shores see MBM as a virtual world every day ...

Thankfully with modern technology.....20,000km is only a fraction of a microsecond on the internet

Keep the postings & images coming :-))

Colin

Great idea Colin

Maybe we could have an hour or so of Zoom (video streaming) activity - happy to arrange this is people think there is any mileage in the idea...it can even be recorded and perhaps made available on YouTube after the event.

I will fill up my paddling pool and float a boat or 10! so long as I can keep the dogs out of the water should be a bit of fun.

If other people want to do similar or just show static boats via video link it might be interesting - all you need is a WiFi connected smart phone or tablet.

I am sure Martin will have some ideas re photography/video that might add to the concept.

Martin perhaps if you agree you could move/duplicate Colin's and then my post to a new thread - "VMBME - Virtual Model Boat Mayhem Extravaganza"

Regards

ps anyone want to put boats in baths or paddling pools welcome!

This sounds like a great idea and thank goodness for forums like this one as otherwise there would be a real vacuum even worse than we currently have.

Given my age and the much publicised need for social distancing until a vaccine is available (in the billions of doses) I have given up all hope of going to any events (club or national) this year even if they are held - which I doubt.

I think my company account allows 500 in 24 hours so lots of capacity

It sounds interesting but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. How on earth do i see what up to 500 other people are doing on my computer screen?

The basics:

A. At the correct date/time - Click on a weblink that would appear on this site with Martin's  permission
B. Enter a meeting password

In essence that's it!

If using a mobile phone/tablet - it will want you to install the Zoom app - you simple click on a weblink

The only other questions you will get asked before you get into the video meeting is if you want to allow audio/video

That's it

If this goes forward as an event then full instructions would be published in advance and you can downlaod the app etc in advance

I wouldn't be afraid of zoom as an invitee rather than an inviter. I'm tech savvy but not software and programs. When I get an invite to join zoom, I just check the source is legit and click the link, no password required on a laptop.  You do need a decent machine and connection for video. 9 out of 10 times I don't use video and ask others not to to preserve audio quality. If you have the free version it's limited to about 40mins each time before auto disconnect. I must admit I do like it for sharing what is down on the computer screen though I'm no convert to meetings or not just phoning someone.

Sounds interesting.
If there are, lets say, 100 people in the session what does each of them get on their computer screen. My screen area divided by 100 is a very small area!

I would ask to check with a few users before rolling it out.

Myself and friends used it a few weeks ago the time period was unlimited and they have made the free one like this during the lockdown but there was 6 of us and you don’t see much on the screen so if we had lots more it could get a bit harder to see what’s going on and also the sound software selects a single source so there could be people trying to speak and nobody hearing.

But I would be up for trying and seeing if it can be done :-))

I hope not! 20000km is 67ms, at full bore. Any faster and you'll be reading Mayhem back in time!

I love it in "the far off lands". It's quiet, and even our dog Monty is "social distancing" :}

Well we shall have to make sure that Mayhem at Wicksteed 2021 will be an outstanding event.
I’m raising a glass this evening for everyone for this weekend and hope everyone is keeping safe.
Now where is that alcoholic stuff that almost killed off Steamboat Phil’s French family? %% %%

The local weather is hot and sunny but definitely Gazebo flying conditions.
Roll on something different than lockdown.  O0
