Brushless motor
« on: July 11, 2020, 12:28:13 am »

Hi has anyone used this motor and if so, is it any good? I want to build a small fast rc speedboat. What is the cheapest battery pack, battery charger and remote transmitter receiver that would work for this motor and esc? Thanks

Yes LOTS of people... In fact most Ready-to-go "speed boats" these days are all Brushless!

That one you're looking at is pretty fast, so make sure you get good batteries that can stand up to the current load... C rating!

Hi Hyper
The motor is to high rpm's for a small boat!!!
A Banggood Surpass C3542-1250kv 850 Watts on 4s or the 1450kv!!!
A car ESC 80Amp to handle 4S or more.
Metal uni 5 to 4mm from motor to shaft.
Prop  2 blade 32/34mm.
Lipo battery 3/4S 40 to 60C, 4000 to 5000mah.
Low voltage alarm with voltage read out.
A good balance charger with a safety bag.

I have four 1250kv in boats up to 30"(760mm) and they are all fast with good run time.

Here are the specs. What is the cheapest LiPo battery pack and balance charger available? Will a cheap remote control transmitter receiver suffice?
Thanks

Have a look at component shop for a charger and batteries https://www.componentshop.co.uk/
Any receiver that works with you transmitter will be ok.

I thought LiPo batteries are standard in RC. This refers to Nickel Cadmium batteries. Is this ESC compatible with LiPo and if so what is the LiPo equivalent battery spec?
Thanks

Component shop do both Nimhs and Lipos, look around their site. Electricity is electricity no matter what type of battery it comes from. Lipos tend to be used with brushless motors where speed is involved as they are lighter for the same power/capacity. I have used Nimhs with brushless with no problems.

Thanks
Is there a universal plug for batteries or is an adaptor required?

Since the beginning of 2017 Nickel-Cadmium batteries have only been allowed in emergency systems and lighting. NiMH cells are the replacement type and are more user-friendly as well as having more capacity for the same size. LiPo cells are increasingly used in RC models but they do require more careful handling and maintenance. You will also require either a speed controller with a low-voltage cut-off or a low-voltage alarm because they can get very unstable if the voltage drops below around 3.2v/cell.
BTW I'm with Canabus in that the inrunner motor you have flagged is far too fast. Harry has a lot of experience with this type and size of model and while we don't always agree on the definiton of "scale-like performance" (he thinks that anything less than Mach 1 is for wusses....) we do share a preference for outrunners of between 1000 and 1500kv. If you overdo the revs then you'll either overload the prop or the model just sits there while cavitation boils the lake away. Inrunners tend to be used in combination with gearboxes or for ducted fans.
I think you'll find lots of useful information and explanations in this article http://www.modelboats.co.uk/news/article/but-i-don't-understand-electronics/18054
