Hi everyone,

Glad to be here. I’m based in Hull,

Just about to start my fist model.   I’m thinking of either a small kit,  would like a model between 2 and 3 ft long, like tugs and merchant ships.

Or, I might just have a go at the free plan in this months model boat magazine.

Any ideas?

Welcome!
It depends what scale you want to build at. Model Slipway do a range of kits such as 10 and 4 hatch coasters in 1\50 and just over 3 feet, Al Kubah in 1\32 and around 28 inches etc. Im not keen on building much smaller than 1\40 as things can get a bit fiddly unless you're into super detailing.

Welcome to the forum.
Unless you've done some craft work before I would start with a kit to get an idea of how a model boat is built. Building from a plan, unless accompanied by a guide st can be quite complex. As has been said Model slipway do good kits with comprehensive instructions. No connection just happy customer.

Thanks for the welcome.

I’m not too keen on overly fiddly either and I do have plenty of space.  The other thing I thought about was a paddle steamer!
