« on: February 25, 2021, 12:17:28 pm »

Considering the number of Oldies on the forum curious as to  how many might take Vitamin D tablets regularly.
I do Not wish to open a New Front just  Yay or nay.  not whys or why nots. I'm a Yay.

I started this year, mainly as I am not outdoors getting some sun as often as I used to be due to the rules stopping me getting to the clubs flying field. On the basis that I would be low on vitamin D I felt that taking a supplement would be of benefit. Hopefully once the restrictions are removed I will be getting exposed to sunlight and no longer need them.

As Jim says, yes.

The recent weather in the UK has been pretty much sunless for most of the time and apparently keeping up Vitamin D levels helps if you contract Covid.

Agree, get out in the sun.  I used to go full size sailing with a friend and he named his yacht Vitminsea, which is also good for you.

I get mine incidentally. I have been taking Calcium, and the Calcium tablets I take also have vitamin D. Also we are entering sunny season in SW China now. The coldest two months have just ended, but we still had sunshine. We now go into the hottest two month, then we are back into 4 months of rainy season.

Like tigertiger I also get mine with my calcium tabets. Apparantly calcium just goes straight through the body without the vitamin D3.

Yup I take it, been taking it for years now. There was a BBC report a few years back about the link between low Vit D levels and some health problems in Northern Scotland / Orkney so decided better safe than sorry

Yes - that's why they put it in - the main brand is AdCal D - I was prescribed it for my osteoporosis but I find it burns in the stomach and I become intolerant of it within a week.

Nay - I'm outdoors a lot.  We do a lot of walking, living in Perthshire there's plenty of scope for good walks without breaking lockdown rules by leaving our council area.  Roll on better weather so we can get back into the high hills though (don't have the skills/equipment to do that in winter).

Nay

That said - where I work the shifts mean I usually have to be stood down after the majority of the year which coincides with the now earlier summer at Easter, hence - I usually get to sit out in it for a few hours a day over a couple of weeks such that I get my tan from the early part of the year and if its sunny out, my shifts mean I am usually on early's and get the afternoon out as well in the latter part of the year.

Yes, although this is the first winter I have done so.  SWMBO got a free packet of vitamin D tablets from the NHS.

Nay, we don't have a problem with too little sunlight over here, just the opposite. Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of the disease in Australia, so I tend to minimise exposure as much as possible by covering up, wearing a hat, and the use of sunscreen on high UV days..

Nay.   Slip, slop, slap as the Cancer Council say.  :-))
Slip on a shirt, slop on the cream and slap on a hat.   Especially as my treatment makes me even more likely to get skin cancers.
