Dave Milbourn RIP
« on: March 05, 2021, 10:46:37 am »

For the third time this year I am very sad to announce bad news for the model boating community.

Yesterday Dave Milbourn passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was diagnosed as having a terminal condition towards the end of last July but did not wish it to be generally known. He confided in a few people and we have been offering what support we could for him during a very difficult time. I like to think that helped and he obviously appreciated it.

Despite his situation he continued to post on the forums and offer expert advice in his inimitable style for as long as he was able.

I know he was pleased at the way his enthusiasm for Fairey Power Boats was taken up by so many people with a lot of fine models resulting which will be a big part of his legacy to the hobby. We will all miss him.

I have expressed our deepest condolences to his wife Liz who has had a terrible burden to bear over these last few months but at least Dave is now at peace.

A pleasure to have met him R.I.P Dave

Sad news the world has lost one brilliant modeller.  Big hole to be filled in - in the modelling world.   His knowledge was vast - not only in model boating, but in aircraft as well.

Rest in peace my dear friend; Dave you will be with your old mate PMK now - sincere condolences to Liz and Dave's family.

I feel very honoured to have met Dave and to have Dave and Liz as friends. It all started when I bought the hand Shamrock off him, being in his man cave whilst he repaired some ACTion ESC's and drinking a G&T in the back garden in Nottingham.

Dave my friend  I will be raising a Janneau Brandy tonight to you my friend.

This is most socking and very very sad news. I had known Dave for many years, and his help and friendship will be missed, he had very wise words for me, which he was always repeating over the years and I quote "before you connect any wires to anything  check with me first"  {-) {-)
I guess he had got fed up repairing all the speed controllers I kept blowing up  :embarrassed:
RIP Dave my thoughts and condolences go to Liz and the family

Hi Colin,I was one of people that Dave confided with and yet this is still really sad news. Please add my condolences to Liz, family and Friends. Your idea of doing something at Mayhem (hopefully sometime later this year) to remember Dave is fantastic. I'm sure everyone would be pleased to be involved in what ever you come up with.Very best regards. Steve Dean.

Very sad news. I only met Dave a couple of times, at shows, and communicated with him by PM on other matters. A lovely man and a stalwart of the hobby.
My deepest condolences to Liz and the family.

Very sad news indeed my thoughts are with the family at this time. Dave was a straight taking guy but a very helpful one. The mark he has left on the model world will be remembered for many years. When Craig Talbot died Dave bought Action Model Electronics and introduced new projects and in some cases revamped the old ones or scraped them. There must hundreds of models out there with Action items fitted in them either or from Craig Talbot or Dave Milbourn. Even during retirement Dave kept busy model building and repairing electronics and offering advice on forum sites a true gent to the very end.

Neil Howard-Pritchard
I loved Dave like a brother, and we had many traits in common and would laugh at them together when ever we spoke and when ever we met.
I will miss you terribly, especially the abuse you gave me many times Dave, for being so thick and stupid regarding electronics, and also the times when you offered me kindly words of wisdom when life wasn't always running so smoothly.
God bless you mate and RIP.

I echo all the good things said here about Dave. I had many 'consultations' with him and considered him a hero within model boating. Please excuse my pun that Dave was a man of 'Action'. My condolences to Liz and his family.

Truly shocked at the news. My sincerest condolences to Liz and family for their loss.
As mentioned by so many he was one of most knowledgeable and helpful model boater we have ever had and will be sorely missed. I remember standing opposite him on the Wicksteed stand at Warwick when he was helping Component Shop and he made the weekend even more fun. He has helped so many and asked for so little in return.
RIP Mr Milbourn
