Docking Berth
« on: May 20, 2021, 02:14:19 pm »

Afternoon all, would anyone have plans for a berth station (to save my 4ft tugs getting scraped as I come alongside..) or, would I be able to buy a proprietary one,
Cheers 👍

I just cut down some scrap timber and put a bit of foam under it.

Kinmel, I've never heard of "Swimming Noodles" tbh - sounds a novel idea though :-))

Umi, scrap wood & foam sounds promising - think I'll canvas the chaps from NBMBC to elaborate on it O0

Swimming noodles can also be used to be fitted to your carrier to protect from scratches on the stand, the more expensive version is the pipe lagging which has a slit to the 15 or 22 mm hole through the centre.

With the amount of 'FREE' polystyrene packaging with the home deliveries over the last couple of months a piece under a section of plywood would make a floating berth.

Warspite, it's coming together now - packing polys.,decking - just need to formulate a plan for the terminal buildings etc., could be a bit like the Mersey Ferries landing stage... %%

We use swimming noodles tied alongside our pond.
Saves any scrapes.

Great ideas ! The tug with the black livery looks like the Smitt Rottie in  different  colours... I've launched my Rottie a few times in NB, as well as a 1930's steam tug - soon to be renamed 'Calypso'.  I'll post pics when possible... :-))

Your problem is that New Brighton is already a very small lake without platforms floating on it.
New Brighton's great advantage is that the lake is above ground level and you can take your boat out of the water while standing up, you just need a rubbing strip along the wall.

Agreed, quite  unique &, a distinct advantage to have a raised wall (still a back breaker though when your dropping 2 stone/12.7 kg into the water :o ) I have tyres  attached to the Rottie & fenders to 'Calypso' but there is always the chance they may fail on occasion...

I go to another, purpose built, boating lake in Birkenhead (Gault Road) that has 'flat' edging -  a landing stage would be very useful there  - as would a pair of wellies  & a ground sheet  (to negotiate geese/duck residue - usually well maintained by BM&YBC, but due to Corona, the club hasn't met for quite some time, thankfully though normality is returning & the calender is starting up again...
