Can someone help?
« on: October 20, 2007, 06:28:52 pm »

Dear All,

Cutting a story short, I bought a Futaba SkySport 4EX 40meg TX for one of the vessels. One joystick operates on a slide, and the other spring loaded. Wanting to make both slides, I bought the part to do this, and fitted same successfully - even I could manage this one! However... someone had shown me what they had done with theirs by setting a TDC (top dead centre on the slide). Despite taking great care I have managed to spoil the slide by getting the wrong tooth (two teeth out from TDC). This due to my eyesight not being 100%, and not having a desk magnifier. So, now I am left with a brand new TX with a not right slide, and I am sure people can imagine how very very irritating this is. In my endeavours to correct the slide, I have made matters 'worse' really, though of course it does work, but is not in sink with the left hand joystick.

I have made enqs. re parts and I can get them, but the 'repair' to fit a new slide part is definitely beyond me, though for someone familiar with such things it will be relatively straight forward. I have asked enough of certain others, and there is no-one around here that I know who could do such a thing, but might there be a Mayhem member who is expert in TX matters who might consider helping me out with this please.

It is so frustrating, very partic. as I went to such pains to try and get it right. I have some fine files to work on small gear teeth, but I have a feeling that they were not quite fine enough. The other irritating thing is that I had it perfect the first time, but on the wrong damn tooth! >:( :embarrassed: :'( - it all went wrong when I tried to correct things! >:(

I am definitely not going to try and set TDC on the other slide!!!

So, if someone might consider helping me out of this very irritating situation it would be much appreciated.

Regards, Bernard

Bernard,
I assume you mean the ratchet on the throttle stick.
If the neutral mark is too high, extend the brass part, if it is too low open up the hole and allow you to move the brass "V".
If it is only 2 teeth you might be able to open up the hole enough for the too high level too.
If all else fails solder the "V" end on to a thin brass strip and drill and elongate the hole to allow it to fit.

Dear Bob,

Thankyou for your reply.

I wish it was as easy as that, but unfortunately there is no adjustment. The small part that makes the ratchet was a cinch to fit, as also to remove the spring assembly, but the part it makes contact with (the 'halfmoon' part with gear teeth), is impossible to adjust in any way shape or form - in any case the teeth are 'part spoiled'. It works per se, but it's not right, and things like that irritate me greatly. Why Futaba don't make the bloody things with a TDC mark in place on the gear teeth part I don't know - one that matches the TDC mark on the outside of the joystick slide. I rang Futaba Service who told me it would cost more to put the new part in than the TX after labour and postage (though the part is only a few £'s), but I will ring Howes to see if they can help (Steve back tomorrow) - apparently they have someone who comes in once a week to do TX repairs. I think at the end of the day it will unfortunately be faster and easier just to buy another and scrap this one. Oh well!

Dear Bob,

Unfortnately there is no brass part to adjust, it's one single piece of plastic.

Bernard, what holds the ratchet in place, on my skysport there is a brass "finger" with a "V" in the outer end.
This "V" engages with the ratchet.

Dear Bob,

Thankyou for your reply.

I now know exactly what you mean now, except my fittings are 'steel' finish and not brass. If I was to follow the route you propose, I would need to bend straight the 'lug' end of the part that fits into the 90deg. retaining slot, and use as a straight fitting over the screw point. I will look with a view to your solution, but I am still not happy with the gen. 'drive teeth' side of things. Time is another factor, as things are partic. busy at present - have just come home for ten mins. to have breakfast! Hope to be back just after 2pm so will ring Steve and see what he says, and will make my final decision then. Thanks again for your replies. Have another pic. of Eugen by the way, and will email same this eve. with a bit of luck.
