Hi madboats,

I think you may be referring to Graupner Super Smoke Generator 6V 2324

Not sure if the Graupner one is still available - it's listed on some sites but out of stock - maybe searching eBay is an option

https://www.nexusmodels.co.uk/graupner-super-smoke-generator-6v.html

Try Googling - Seuthe Smoke Generator

or perhaps look at the many water based atomiser "smoke" generators

It is also quite simple to make one using E-cigarette generators........

Not unless you want to get droplets of ink/food colouring/etc all over your deck and superstructure.

I thought black smoke from a ships funnel meant there was something wrong with the combustion.

I remember trying to add creosote to smoke generators to darken the smoke.
It stank, made a mess and would certainly be frowned on these days !

Dosnt work . At best you will get very very very light grey and a big mess on your model.

With coal powered ships and to a lesser extent oil powered ships, when they stoke the boilers you initially get poor combustion and lots of smoke. This is why sometimes when working up to speed coal powered ships emit huge amounts of smoke but other times when up to speed whilst they emit smoke it is very much less.

So far I'm not aware of any realistic method of making black smoke without making a filthy mess of the model - it would be nice if someone could find a way!

Cheers

So reading this I wonder if the Seuthe Smoke Oil lasts about 30mins for 10ml at a cost of £6 could you just not use  pure vegetable glycerin thats the vape stuff and only costs £4.50 per 250ml

Has anyone tried it yet?

I've used smoke generators before, they're pretty neat. Haven't tried the Graupner steam oil one specifically, but I've heard good things. Might be worth checking if they still make them. Can't hurt to ask around or search online for alternatives too. Good luck!

I was in a similar situation looking for a smoke generator for a project. Graupner's stuff is pretty niche, but I found that sometimes you can get creative with what you have. I ended up using an E-Cigarette from Innokin for my needs. It worked surprisingly well for creating that smoke effect without the hassle of finding specific model parts. It might not be the traditional route, but it's an option if you're stuck.
