DAF YA-126 and other hobbies
« on: November 03, 2023, 07:43:28 am »

Hello all,
In addition to ship modelling, I am also maintaining and old army truck of the Dutch army. The design originates from 1955 and my tru was built in 1956. It has independent suspension, uses only one set of differential gears (located under the seats), and has off-course 4 wheel drive wiht high and low gears, it has a winch connected using a PTO and has a tyre pump for in-terrain tyre pressure adaptations. It can also be hand cranked and lacks a lot of the features now common (no blowers, no heating, no locks or keys, doors must be opened to open the windshields, 0-50mph in 2 minutes...)

In addition to the Daf, my wife also has an oldtimer to drive, an MG B with right-hand-drive. I perform all the maintenance of both cars mysefl and have a small workshop including a bridgfor easier access.

Another hobby is building model locomotives, but due to lack of time and other interesting stuff, that hobby is a bit quiet. The picture shows a model of a Dutch locomotive which is (besides wheels and lanterns) fully sratch built, based on blueprints which have been converted to CAD. The paint scheme must be familiar to English railway modellers as it has been painten in 'Stroudley's New Improved engine Green'...

Last but not least, I like to read a lot and over the last 40 years I have collected a lot of books about ships, planes, trains, automobiles, infrastructure annd military stuff.I can't walk past a bookstore or charity shop without looking for some technical or engineering books.

I'm envious of all of it!  Always wanted an M37 or an old pickup truck but I don't think I have the skills or equipment needed to keep one going.

Interesting and varied interests there. Yes, time is always a problem!
